READING IS FUNDAMENTAL (RIF)
The Club has participated in this excellent program which encourages young people to read since 1990. Kiwanians read for one hour periods three times a year to Head Start children in the local school system. The Club donates $2,500 annually for the purchase of books. This amounts to an in-kind donation (in books and time) to Head Start of $12,500. This amount justifies grant funds of another 4 times that amount, or $50,000 in additional benefits to the children. Finally, the children get to keep the books, for many, the FIRST AND ONLY BOOKS in their homes!
